Features
Food-grade carrageenan is extracted from red algae and processed with an alkaline substance. Carrageenan has a variety of uses and is therefore used in a wide range of products. Carrageenan is usually found in vegetarian products. In addition, Carrageenan food additive also found in pet foods, especially canned foods. Since carrageenan can be used as a substitute for gelatin, some manufacturers use carrageenan in jelly products, including vegan jelly desserts.
Application
1. Although Carrageenan Gum has no nutritional value, many manufacturers use it as a thickening and stabilizing agent. Adding carrageenan to chocolate milk, soy milk, soy pudding, and other products is beneficial in preventing milk separation.
2. Carrageenan Gum can also replace fat in fat-free or low-fat foods and milk replacers for the vegetarian market.
3. Some manufacturers use carrageenan as a binder for processed cooked meat. Adding carrageenan to precooked poultry makes the meat more tender and juicy for longer.
4. Products such as air freshener gels and toothpaste also often contain carrageenan.
