Features
Propylene glycol, a thick, colourless liquid that is almost tasteless and faintly sweet, has the chemical formula CH3CH(OH) and CH2OH, which contains two alcohol groups and is classified as a diol.
It is miscible with a variety of solvents, including water, acetone and chloroform. In general, propylene glycol is non-irritating and very low in volatility.
Propylene glycol is a safe compound approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is also approved by the FDA for some uses as an indirect food additive.
